Dine At Duck & Waffle

On Monday night, I had one of the most magical evenings of my life. I had bought my friend Lily a Duck & Waffle voucher for her birthday as I had read rave reviews about the place, and on Monday night it was finally time to make use of it (after making a reservation a couple of weeks before – you can’t leave it last minute with this place!) We whizzed up to the 40th floor of the Heron tower, hung up our coats and were whisked to our seats in the blink of an eye by a very attentive waitress.

The style of the restaurant is tapas – there are raw plates, small plates and larger dishes to choose from as well as a couple of sides and freshly baked bread. Lily and I decided we’d share 5 ‘small plates’ and some bread. We went for (1) smoked cow ricotta granola, honey & amalfi lemon (2) pearl barley & wild mushroom ragout, goat curd & 63 degree hen egg (3) roasted octopus, chorizo, lemon & caper (4) pollock meatballs, lobster cream & parmesan (5) dorset crab toast, lemon aioli & pea shoot salad and (6) cherry tomato and goats cheese bread. I cannot express how flavoursome and exquisite every single dish is. The menu gently nudges you into choosing dishes that you just never would usually – well, I wouldn’t anyway – and my tastebuds were thanking me with every mouthful. Every plate was different in its own way and Lily and I were making illegible, probably inappropriate, noises that the bemused waitress simply nodded and smiled at! For dessert we shared dark chocolate brownie sundae & peanut crunch and it was the perfect cherry on top of a VERY full cake! Any more, and I would have burst. I was very full – but in the most content of ways.

I can’t urge you enough to get down (well, up really) to Duck and Waffle. For a taste sensation, wonderful service that cannot be rivalled and an incredible view to boot, there really isn’t anything to complain about. I loved every second, and wish I could do it all over again. And again.
